Spinning Eggs at the Science Busking Festival

Miss Chu returned for another bite at the cherry with a new routine at this year’s Singapore Science Busking Festival. This year she entered solo, and managed to audition her way into the finals again, under the moniker “Little Miss Eggstraordinary” and a demonstration on the slightly obscure art of spinning eggs and Tippe tops. The full scientific explanation of this physical phenomenon is high level stuff which puzzled even likes of Nobel-prize winning physicist Niels Bohr, so realistically, Miss Chu’s explanation is greatly simplified so that both she, and her target audience, can grasp the basics. But you have to start somewhere!

Having gained a bit of experience last year, she was visibly more relaxed and confident, and enjoyed pulling in the crowds with her spinning toys.

However the heat of this year’s outdoor venue definitely took its toll and after over ten hours of busking over two days, she was pretty exhausted by the time the judges came round this afternoon! Nevertheless her perseverance paid off with another prize, this time for “Best Showmanship” in the Primary Schools category!

As the general noise levels made it impossible to video during the actual busking, here’s Little Miss Eggstraordinary practising on our patio!
